The Pasta Shape You Didn't Know You Were Loyal To

The Pasta Shape You Didn't Know You Were Loyal To

Everyone has a favourite pasta shape they automatically reach out for on their grocery run. Each pasta has its own personality and it pairs well with a particular sauce. The shape of the pasta is not only about the appearance, it’s also to hold and compliment the specific sauce, which makes every bite more flavourful.

Here's the thing though, penne is a tube for a reason. So is every other shape on that shelf. Once you notice it, you can't un-notice it, and Golden Crown's lineup happens to be a good place to see the whole logic laid out. Search around for a solid penne pasta brand in India and the name comes up constantly, which is really just the internet's way of saying "people keep buying this one."

How is our Pasta made

Our pasta is made from Durum wheat and not maida. Why does it matter, you ask? Durum wheat semolina is harder and higher in protein than regular refined wheat flour and is what keeps pasta from collapsing into paste the moment it hits boiling water. It’s also better for the gut. The firm texture which holds shape is better to absorb and hold sauce. This is suitable for commercial kitchens as they provide consistent cooking performance.

The Pasta Shapes

Penne Rigate has ridges on the outside and a hollow center, angled cut at both ends, and every part of that design exists purely to trap sauce. It's perfect to hold thick sauces. Fusilli is the one that looks like it's showing off, that corkscrew twist, but the twist earns its keep too, it grabs onto chunky bits of vegetable or meat that a flatter noodle would just shed. A thin sauce does not do justice to the shape of Fusilli. A creamier sauce with small chunks hits the right notes.

Macaroni doesn't need an introduction. Everybody already has a childhood opinion about it, usually involving too much cheese and not enough regret. A baked dish like mac and cheese is a timeless classic which is a staple in most households and a bestseller at hotels. Spaghetti's the same story, say "pasta" to a stranger and there's a decent chance spaghetti is the first image in their head. An oil based preparation like aglio olio sits perfectly on every palette. And then, almost as a punchline, there's Farfalle. Looks like a butterfly, which makes it a child pleaser. Then the Lasagne, the most premium and iconic pasta varieties. The broad delicate sheets are used to create layered dishes. Being one of the most versatile pastas makes it a timeless favourite.

Why Chefs Stop Shopping Around

If you ask chefs which pasta brands they trust, Golden Crown is a name you'll hear often. Restaurants, hotels, and professional kitchens need pasta that delivers the same result every single time. Whether they're serving a few guests or hundreds at a large event, consistency matters. In a professional kitchen every shape is chosen for a reason i.e. each pasta holds sauces differently, which help create the perfect flavour and taste.

So next time you are in the pasta aisle of the grocery store, notice the different shapes and pick up one you have never tried. Then pair it with a sauce that works best with that pasta. The flavour and taste may just surprise you!
